As a lubricant and ointment base, liquid paraffin is primarily employed as an excipient in topical pharmaceutical preparations, where it serves as a component of ointment bases by virtue of its emollient properties. It is also utilized in ophthalmic formulations. Furthermore, liquid paraffin is incorporated into oil-in-water emulsions; it functions as a solvent as well as a lubricant in capsules and tablets; it serves as a mold-release agent for cocoa butter suppositories; and it has been utilized in the preparation of microcapsules. Additionally, liquid paraffin finds application in cosmetics and certain food products.
